1. NO USEN GROSERÍAS NI AMENAZAS.

Simply suspending your employee Chumel Torres's show is not enough; He used racism to attack people

Mr. Stephenson,

HBO Latino announced it would be suspending Chumel Torres's show till further notice, pending an investigation over the accusations of racism and discriminatory expressions by Torres on social media.

The announcement was released a few hours after several people in Mexico sent you emails demanding the firing of Chumel Torres and the people in charge of HBO Latino who for years have been ignoring the many complaints against him.

I'm afraid a simple suspension of the TV show is not enough. AT&T must fire and permanently end any and all commercial relationships not only Chumel Torres, but also with the people who run HBO Latino, as their vision and actions in the company are clearly very different from HBO for the USA.

It simply doesn't make sense that the same company who hired Bill Maher and John Oliver, who have spoken brilliantly and intelligently against racism and discrimination over the years, is the same company that hires a person who has admitted to using racist, discriminatory and misogynist language.

Because that is exactly what Torres did during an online debate on June 18, 2020: admitting he does use racist and discriminatory language. But instead of taking responsibility for it, he blamed television for "educating" him to do so. Well, if that's the case, then HBO Latino is "educatign" its viwers to be racists by hiring a racist.

I'm not making this up. You can see the video of Torres admitting his racism right here:

To be honest with you, Mr. Stephenson, HBO Latino's announcement sounds disingenuous. Sounds like a way to temporarily halt the complaints against HBO, only to continue doing the same things they've done in the past all over again once the dust has settled.

That is why I must insist that AT&T fires not just Chumel Torres, but also the people who run HBO Latino. They clearly have a different vision of how to make money in Latin America. Their vision clearly doesn't include respect for minorities and, instead, privileges the priviliged, and the ones who for decades have attacked people with darker skin color.

Please do the right thing, Mr. Stephenson. A temporary suspension of a TV show is NOT the right thing. Firing Chumel Torres and the people who run HBO Latino IS the right thing. You must understand this. If Disney fired Roseanne Barr over ONE racist tweet, AT&T MUST fire not just Chumel Torres, but ALL the people involved in the management of HBO Latino. Particularly in Mexico, where they have ignored for YEARS the complaints against Chumel Torres.

And yes, I will boicot AT&T, HBO, and HBO Max in Mexico and the USA as long as AT&T does not permanently fire Chumel Torres and the people running HBO Latino.

Let me be clear: I admire HBO for their shows Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Real Time with Bill Maher. But Chumel Torres is neither John Oliver nor Bill Maher. Chumel Torres is the equivalent of the worst of Sean Hannity. That is NOT progress. That is NOT what HBO should stand for.

Do the right thing, Mr. Stephenson. Please do the right thing. Until you do, AT&T and HBO Max are not getting my business as a customer. And I will make sure many more people just as outraged as I am won't be your customers either. There are other mobile phone and streaming options out there that don't hire racists.

Sincerily
